It’s that time of year when a new intake of smartly dressed children turn up for their first ever day at school on Wearside.
New uniforms, excited children and emotional parents were just part of the scene as these children set off for a first day in the classroom in 2011.
Re-live it all through these Sunderland Echo archive photos which show pupils experiencing a whole new world of learning at Grangetown, Fulwell, Barnes, St Benet’s and Albany Primary.
Others were beginning term at George Washington, Plains Farm, Valley Road and more.
