Happy National Fish and Chips Day everyone!
We could not let the day pass without a tribute to the fish and chip shops of Sunderland and East Durham which have served up tasty portions for decades.
Whether it was Downey’s, Latimer’s, Fountains, Mister Cod, Bimbis or Redz , we have it all in a gallery of archive scenes stretching from 1980 to 2025.
But it’s not just the shops which are pictured. We have people tucking into platefuls on the sea front with family and we hope you can spot someone you know in our Sunderland Echo selection of photo memories.
If this was a tasty serving, get in touch and tell us what we should feature in our retro section next - whether it is a pub, club, restaurant, nightclub or shop from the past.
