We all have memories of school meals - good or bad.
But with big changes coming in for today’s students, it got us thinking about the great dinner hall scenes we saw on Wearside over the years.
Sugary drinks and foods such as ice cream and waffles will be restricted, while deep-fried foods are cut, according to the Department for Education (DfE).
Foods high in fat and salt such as pizzas and sausages will also have to be limited. More fibrous wholegrains and pulses such as lentils and chickpeas will be required on menus alongside main meal options at least once a week.
As changes beckon, let’s enjoy these meal memories from schools across Sunderland and East Durham including Grangetown, Hudson Road, Broadway, Farringdon, and Quarry View as well as many more.
