No gloves, no leggings: The days when Sunday League players battled in the Sunderland snow

Now this brings back chilly Sunday morning memories! It’s the day when we turned out in the snow for a league match.

Back in the 1970s, and before players wore gloves or leggings, this was a typical scene on Sunderland’s local pitches.

Hats off to the teams of North Sands and The Bridge who gave everything during the Tyne and Wear League game 49 years ago this week.
