Remember when the East End got this giant attraction?

There’s bouncy castles and then there’s this monster of a bouncy castle.

This huge 30ft by 24ft inflatable drew huge crowds in the East End when it arrived in 1983.

It stood 15ft high and a Sunderland Echo article at the time said children in the area were quick to try it out and have lots of fun.

The castle was due to be used by playschemes around the town over the coming months but it was the East End community centre which was its first port of call.

And as this photograph shows, there was no shortage of takers of children wanting to become ‘kings of the castle’.
