The splendour of the July 4 celebrations will return to Washington once more for 2026.
Independence Day will once more be celebrated on Wearside, just like it was in all of these great years.
Civic and business leaders joined schoolchildren for celebrations at the ancestral home of George Washington in 1974 and 1985.
Moving the clock forward, we also have memories from 2010, 2011, 2017, 2018 and 2019.
Join us for a look back at a fantastic gallery of Sunderland Echo photo memories as we count down to this year’s ceremony.
And why not get in touch with us to tell us about the nostalgia you would like to see in the Sunderland Echo. It could be a memory of a pub from the past which has been demolished, a restaurant you loved, a shop you worked in or a school you used to go to.
