Fantastic Oxclose Primary in the picture with 11 memories from a school in the headlines

It’s a school in the news. That’s Oxclose Primary which is celebrating a great Ofsted result.

The Academy was deemed to be at a strong standard for inclusion and Early Years provision, and at the expected standard for achievement, attendance and behaviour, curriculum and teaching, leadership and governance, and personal development and wellbeing, as reported in the Sunderland Echo.

But it got us thinking about the other times that the Washington school appeared in the Sunderland Echo’s pages over the years.

We have photo memories from 2004 to 2022 and they span from the day the school unveiled its own version of the Angel of the North to Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022.

Have a browse through our gallery and see if it brings back great recollections for you.

Or perhaps you would like to tell us about other types of nostalgia you would want to see in our retro section.

It might be memories of your favourite shop, club, nightclub or restaurant. Maybe you want to get back in touch with former workmates from a Sunderland factory, or with pals who you went to school with.

Or perhaps you would like to share memories of a sporting occasion in the past which you would like to revisit.
