Not many pubs have been a part of the scene for an FA Cup parade, a VIP Sport Relief memory, a picket line and a pineapple.
But the Board Inn in Herrington has and we have the proof in a fantastic series of Sunderland Echo photo memories.
The popular local was the setting for a memorable moment when SAFC fans packed into its roof to see the FA Cup come home in 1973.
It was back in the spotlight again when a Miners Strike picket line was seen in 1984, and again in 2000 when giant pineapples were erected on the roundabout near the pub.
Then there was the time when former Sunderland women’s player Jill Scott tackled a 388-mile run for Sport Relief and was greeted by crowds outside the pub earlier this year.
