Phew what a scorcher! The Sunderland summer of 1976 certainly was but we wanted to know what you remembered about it.
And when we asked the followers of our Wearside Echoes Facebook page, loads of you took a trip down Memory Lane.
You had memories of queuing for water, doing your homework and exam revision on the beach, and getting badly sunburned.
Others remembered coping with the heatwave while they were heavily pregnant. And plenty of you remembered what you did when the weather finally broke and the heavens opened.
Here’s what you had to say about that incredible heatwave which lasted for weeks. If you have memories of your own of the summer of 1976, get in touch to tell us more by emailing [email protected]

10. Still suntanned
David Shillito said: "Sun came out in May and went away in September, it was lovely all summer but too hot for the older ones. Was a postman that summer and my arms are still brown." | se
