These are the top 40 little risks Sunderland locals take on a weekly basis

The typical Sunderland local takes three ‘little risks’ a week – including drinking coffee or tea before going to bed, going outside barefoot and jumping down the last few steps on the stairs.

Researchers who polled 2,565 adults – including Sunderland residents – found more than four in 10 of those living locally (44 per cent) describe themselves as risk takers.

Other potentially perilous acts include going to bed late on a work night, getting the last bus, tube, or train home, and going outside with wet hair.

Commissioned on behalf of 888poker, the study found those living in Sunderland are most inclined to live dangerously on a Friday – taking more risks this day.

While 23 years old is the age Sunderland locals believe they were most willing to sail close to the wind.

The study found 42 per cent feel ‘nervous’ when taking risks, while 35 per cent feel ‘free’ and 28 per cent feel ‘crazy.’

Three quarters (73 per cent) think skating on thin ice – taking risks – makes life more fun.

Playing it safe

Although 63 per cent admit their life is lack is lacking in excitement – possibly because they tend to play it safe.

More common risks include not doing the washing up till next morning, using someone else’s mug, and ordering something other than their ‘usual’ when eating in a restaurant.

Leaving home with a phone low on battery, leaving work half an hour early, and overfilling hand luggage when travelling by plane are also regular risks.

Carried out through OnePoll, the study found 19 per cent of Sunderland locals indulge their risk-taking side by playing poker.

Although 29 per cent said their style of play is to play it safe.
