Probe launched after body of woman found in Sunderland street

Northumbria Police received reports that a woman's body has been found in Penshaw Lane, in Penshaw.

Detectives say they do not believe there is any third-party involvement in the death of the woman.

A force spokesperson said: "At 8.04am today (Monday), police received a report that a body had been found on Penshaw Lane, Penshaw.

"Emergency services attended and the body of a 47-year-old woman was found. Her family are being supported by specialist officers.

"There is not believed to be any third-party involvement and a report will be made for the coroner."
