Woman taken to hospital after being cut free from car

A woman was taken to hospital with suspected spinal injuries after being cut out of her car by firefighters following a collision involving two cars.

The casualty had been driving a Ford Fiesta when it was involved in a collision with a Nissan Juke on Broadway at around 8pm on Saturday.

Firefighters had to cut off the roof of the Fiesta to free the woman who was placed on a spinal board.

The front seat male passenger managed to free himself before the fire brigade arrived on he scene.

He later complained of neck injuries and received attention from paramedics.

Both were taken by ambulance to Sunderland Royal Hospital.

The driver of the Juke, a woman with a baby, was uninjured as was the child. Both went to hospital as precaution.

Two crews from Farringdon fire station attended the incident.
