Woman airlifted to hospital after being thrown from horse in Durham

A horse rider had to be airlifted to hospital today after suffering serious injuries when she was thrown from her horse.

The accident happened at Littletown, near Pittington, Durham, at about 12.30pm.

The woman, whose age is not known, had suffered head and pelvic injuries.

She was anaesthetised by a paramedic and doctor on scene and flown by the Great North Air Ambulance helicopter to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.

Her condition on arrival was said to be stable.
