Wolves keen to give Hartlepool United midfielder chance to win a deal

The 19-year-old featured for Wolves' Under-21 team in a trial game against Aston Villa at Telford on Monday night, Villa winning 3-2.

But the Billingham-born midfielder, understood to be valued at around £50,000, impressed and almost got on the scoresheet in the second half.

It was Walker's second spell on trial at Wolves, having spent a few days there before Christmas and Jackett has revealed he is keen to see Walker again.

It remains to be seen whether Wolves will make a move to sign Walker permanently before Monday's 11pm transfer deadline.

Jackett, who watched Walker in action at New Bucks Head, said: "We'll probably be inviting him back again.

"He had a good game, showed a good passing range I felt, both short and long.

"He did have two days training with us some weeks ago.

"We obviously wanted to follow up that with a game and we’ve been waiting for the right game to put him in."

When asked if Walker moved permanently to Molineux, would he go into the under-21 squad?

Jackett told the Express and Star: "Yes, but at 19 there would have to be a quick turnover for him to get into the first team group."

Walker was a mainstay in the side in 2013/14, making 42 appearances under Cooper but has found first team opportunities limited under Ronnie Moore.

He won the club’s goal of the season award and was called up to train with England Under-18s that season – while also being named Football League Apprentice of the Year.

But last season he struggled and, when Moore took over 12 months ago next week, failed to make much impression.

He did, however, score two valuable goals as Pools pulled off the Great Escape.

This campaign has been a stuttering one, with one goal to his name.
