Whitburn victorious in the epic battle of the Danby Autos Sunderland Snooker League top two

This week in the Danby Autos Sunderland Snooker League it was the battle at the top with leaders Washington Snooker travelling to Whitburn.

John Smith started the first frame strongly with a 35-break only to see Gavin Dixon comeback and with the aid of a 38-break win the frame 67-38.

Gary Bell won a close second frame on the final black against Graeme Ablett 54-52, before a 35-break helped Joe Cromby win the third frame beating Norman Leslie 89-38.

Mark Fox quickly levelled the match winning the fourth frame 59-31, before Joe Cromby/Mark Fox completed an excellent comeback, beating Gavin Dixon/Norman Leslie 55-20 for a 3-2 win to Whitburn.

Adam Smith got South Hylton off to an excellent start at home to The Victory.

Gerry Porter potted well to level the match, before Ray James moved The Victory into the lead.

Kevin Harrop levelled the match before Adam Smith continued his outstanding form in the pairs with Ian Stewart, as breaks of 30 and 34 helped win the frame, beating Gerry Porter/John Butler 91-36 for the 3-2 win to Hylton.

Thomas Gwyn, Marc Smithson, Paul Atkinson put Glendale in control against Biddick B, with Trevor Walton replying.

In the pairs, John Danby/John Wiseman beat Philip Straughan/Walton 58-14 for the 4-1 win.

A 38-break saw Gary Stockton get Seaham Conservatives A off to an excellent start at home to Mill View.

Michael Monaghan increased the lead before Les Pinder won a close third frame against John Spruce.

A 23-break helped Robert Cougle win the fourth frame before John Spruce/Lee Dixon won Mill View a consolation point against Gary Stockton/Michael Monaghan in the pairs, reducing the defeat to 4-1.

The match between Biddick A and Steels was expected to be close and the singles alternated into a 2-2 situation before Biddick took the pairs for the overall 3-2 result.

Joe Turner got Pennywell Comrades off to an excellent start at home to The Hetton Centre.

Anthony Longstaff was in impressive form beating Paul Stoves 70-44, before Andrew Doran won the third frame against Joe Nord.

Paul Nord pulled one back for Hetton, before Dean Taylor/Stuart Taylor won the pairs beating Paul Stoves/Joe Nord 55-24 for a 4-1 win.

Ryan Lowes got Murton Colliery off to a good start away at Lumley before Steven Cook increased the lead.

Glen Edwards made his first start of the season and got off to a winning start beating Stephen Clementson, before a 23-break helped Eddie Williamson win the fourth frame.

In the pairs, Steven Cook/Eddie Williamson beat Brian Meuse/Glen Edwards 59-27 for an excellent 4-1 win for Murton.
