South Bents Townswomen's Guild will support Sunderland Federation coffee morning tomorrow at 10am in St Mary's Church hall, Bridge Street, hosted by East Herrington Guild. Next Wednesday, February 10, Peter Barron will give a talk entitled Cloudy, Rain Later at the Guild meeting in Whitburn Methodist Church hall, 7pm.

The Cultural Spring Choir, Singing with Music in the Minster, continues tonight and next Tuesday at 7.15pm in the Barnes Institute. All are welcome to attend and can join at any point during the current term. Musical knowledge is not required and a voluntary contribution of £2 per session would be welcome. There will be no meeting during half term week on Tuesday, February 16.

Souter Lighthouse, the gift shop and tearoom reopen on Saturday, February 13. Get Crafty activities for children, aged from three years, will be available on each weekday of half term, February 15 to 19, from 11am to 4pm. There will be opportunities to build a bird box on Monday, Wednesday and Friday or a miniature lighthouse on Tuesday and Thursday of that week. The cost per child is £3 per craft. Saturday coffee mornings have recommenced at 10am in Whitburn Methodist Church. The Ladies’ Fellowship will hold its first meeting of the year at 2.30pm tomorrow. A Remembrance Service will be held on March 2 for those who have suffered bereavement during the past year. Tea and coffee will be served at 6pm prior to the service at 6.30pm. All are welcome to join the fellowship of these regular or one-off events.

The Barnes Institute has many regular activities available to all on a weekly basis, including line dancing, children’s confidence boosting classes, Tai Chi, karate, card craft class, ukulele group, a well-equipped reasonably priced gym and dog training classes. The building is also available for hire for one-off events such as children’s parties and can accommodate a bouncy castle. Please contact Carol Shield on 07767 156 134 for more information. A coffee morning is held every Monday and Wednesday from 10am until noon to which all are welcome. Regular free activities at Whitburn Library include Baby Bounce – gentle knee bouncing, finger and action rhymes for babies on Mondays from 10am to 10.30am, Storytots – stories, crafts and songs for pre-school children on Tuesdays from 2.30pm to 3.30pm and on Thursdays, Mat Making from 10.30am to noon and friendly Knit and Natter from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.
