South Bents Townswomen's Guild meets tomorrow at 7pm in Whitburn Methodist Church hall for social studies. Speaker Mrs Baty will give a talk entitled Ice- creams Through Italy. Next Wednesday, March 2, members will support Tavistock Guild hosting the Sunderland Federation coffee morning in St Mary's Church hall, Bridge Street at 10am.

The Cultural Spring Choir, Singing with Music in the Minster, resumes tonight in the Barnes Institute at 7.15pm. The final four sessions of this term are tonight and on March 1, 8 and 15. All are welcome to attend and can join at any point during the current term. Musical knowledge is not required and a voluntary contribution of £2 per session would be welcome.

Souter Lighthouse, the gift shop and tea room are now open daily from 11am to 5pm.

Whitburn Methodist Church is holding a Remembrance Service next Wednesday, March 2, for anyone who has suffered a bereavement during this past year. Tea and coffee will be served at 6pm before the 6.30pm service. All are welcome to attend.

Celebration of Women’s World Day of Prayer takes place in Whitburn Parish Church on Friday, March 4, at 2pm. The theme this year is Receive Children, Receive Me, with the featured country being Cuba. Refreshments will be served and all, not just women, are welcome.

The Barnes Institute has many regular activities available to all on a weekly basis, including line dancing, children’s confidence boosting classes, Tai Chi, karate, card craft class, ukulele group, a well-equipped reasonably priced gym and dog training classes. The building is also available for hire for one-off events such as children’s parties and can accommodate a bouncy castle. Contact Carol Shield on 07767 156 134 for more information. A coffee morning is held every Monday and Wednesday from 10am until noon to which all are welcome.
