South Bents Townswomen's Guild AGM is at 7pm tomorrow in Whitburn Methodist Church hall. Refreshments will be served after business is complete. Next Wednesday, March 16, the committee will meet at 6.30pm prior to craft Class when ladies will make plastic-work carrier bag holders.

The Cultural Spring Choir, Singing with Music in the Minster, meets tonight in the Barnes Institute at 7.15pm. The final weekly session is next Tuesday, March 15. Musical knowledge is not required and a voluntary contribution of £2 per session would be welcome.

Whitburn Parish Church AGM is on Sunday at 11am after morning service, in the church itself, not the church hall.

Whitburn Local History Group starts its 2016 programme of talks on Friday, March 18, from 2pm-3.30pm. Robert Moon will speak about Our Finest Hour. Admission is £2 and all are welcome.

Whitburn Parish Church is holding a St Patrick’s Day Race Night in the parish church hall on Friday, March 18, at 7.30pm. Join in the fun and have a flutter on 11 races with the chance of winning ‘big’ money. Tickets cost £7 including a pie and peas supper, available from Jean Atkinson on 529 3574. The Barnes Institute has many regular activities available on a weekly basis, including line dancing, children’s confidence boosting classes, Tai Chi, karate, card craft class, ukulele group, a well-equipped, reasonably priced gym and dog training classes. Coffee mornings take place every Saturday morning in Whitburn Methodist Church hall and Churches Together lunch club is on Thursdays from noon-1.30pm. Soup, sandwiches, salad, sweet, unlimited tea or coffee and stimulating conversation are available for £3 and all are welcome. Regular free activities at Whitburn Library include Baby Bounce – gentle knee bouncing, finger and action rhymes for babies on Mondays from 10am-10.30am; Storytots – stories, crafts and songs for pre-school children on Tuesdays from 2.30pm-3.30pm and on Thursdays, Mat Making from 10.30am-noon and friendly Knit and Natter from 1.30pm-3.30pm.
