Whitburn - Down Your Way

South Bents TG meets tomorrow at 7pm in Whitburn Methodist Church hall. The committee will meet at 6.30pm prior to craft class when ladies will make plastic-work carrier bag holders. Next Wednesday, March 23, ladies are celebrating Easter at the Social Studies meeting with a bonnet competition. There will be no meeting on March 30.

The Cultural Spring Choir, Singing with Music in the Minster, meets tonight in the Barnes Institute at 7.15pm for its final session this term. This will be an informal concert and all family and friends are invited. Plans are being discussed for the summer term.

Whitburn Local History Group starts its 2016 programme on Friday from 2pm-3.30pm. Robert Moon will speak about Our Finest Hour. Admission is £2 and all are welcome to attend.

Whitburn Parish Church is holding a St Patrick’s Day Race Night in the church hall on Friday at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £7 including a pie and peas supper and are available from Jean Atkinson on 529 3574. Take your own liquid refreshment.

Wendy Bowman invites you to an Easter fair on Saturday in the parish church hall from 1pm-4pm. Proceeds from the stalls, including gifts, jewellery, cakes, cards and stationery, boutique clothing and refreshments, are in aid of Marie Curie. There will also be a raffle for a luxury hamper.

Next week, Holy Week, there will be daily services from Monday to Friday at the parish church. For details of times, contact Churchwardens Lorraine on 529 2628 or John on 529 3935. On Good Friday Whitburn Churches will congregate together at 10.45am on the village green for a joint open-air service. This will follow Mattins at 10am in the parish church and Stations of the Cross at 10am in the Methodist Church. Refreshments will be served in the Methodist Church after the service. At 2pm that afternoon, Last Hour at the Cross will be observed in the parish church.

Souter Lighthouse will be hosting Easter egg hunts over the weekend of March 25, 26, 27 and 28 from 11am -4pm. These are suitable for children of all ages and cost £3. Booking is not necessary.
