Souter Lighthouse, the gift shop and tea room are open daily from 11am to 5pm. Today from 11am to 4pm join ORCA Shore Watch and learn about dolphins and porpoises. Everyone is welcome, no experience is needed and this is a great opportunity to learn more about these fascinating sea mammals and how to spot them. Admission charges to the lighthouse apply and booking is essential on [email protected] , or call 293 6202. Everyone is welcome, children muts be accompanied by an adult but no dogs. After an identification workshop there will be a chance to observe from the shore and help gather invaluable data to aid conservation. There will be further opportunities to take part in ORCA activity in June, July, August and September.

On Sunday, the first of Souter’s summer car boot sales takes place from 10am to 4pm. Sellers can set up from 9am on the north side of Souter, the old site of Marsden Village. The cost is £10 per vehicle and buyers entry is by donation. Churches Together in South Tyneside Foodbank is requesting donations of UHT milk, tinned potatoes, fruit and tomatoes, instant mash, curry and pasta sauces, small cereal packs, tea bags, shower gel and other non-perishable commodities. These can be left at the parish church or the Barnes Institute. All donations will be gratefully received, much appreciated and passed on.
