South Bents Townswomen’s Guild will gather tomorrow for an outing to Guisborough and Whitby. The national council meeting will be held in Bournemouth International Centre from Sunday to next Wednesday, June 29, when there will be no local meeting as it is the fifth of the month.

Whitburn’s Got Talent takes place tomorrow at 6pm in the parish church hall, Sandy Chare. Children from Whitburn and Marsden Primary Schools will entertain in various ways, aiming to be the 2016 over-all winner. All are welcome.

Whitburn Festival Family Fun Day is on Saturday in Cornthwaite Park from noon to 4pm. There will be stalls of all kinds, music, sporting activities, face-painting, fair rides, inflatables, refreshments and much more fun for all the family. Admission is free. Strawberry cream teas will be served concurrently in the parish church where the local art club is exhibiting its work. From 9.30am to 11.30am, there will be art and craft activities for children in the library.

The annual Whitburn Churches Together Flower Festival will be held in St Vincent’s Roman Catholic Church, Mill Lane, this year from Friday to Sunday. The theme is 2016 Year of Commemorations and Celebrations and members of all three Whitburn churches will contribute to the spectacular displays. St Vincent’s Church will be open from 10am to 4pm on Friday and Saturday and from 10am to 2pm on Sunday. At 6pm there will be a celebratory Songs of Praise. All are welcome to attend.

Hula Hoop Classes are held in the parish church hall, Sandy Chare, on Fridays from 6pm to 7pm. The cost is £6 per session and hoops are provided or you can take your own. Facebook @FlowFree.

Souter Lighthouse, the gift shop and tea room are open daily from 11am to 5pm. This Sunday from 10am to 2pm, join Souter Rangers for a spectacular seven-mile walk over Cleadon Hills and along the sea cliffs passing Windmill Field, Marsden Old Quarry and Marsden Rock. Spot seabirds and other wildlife along the way. The cost is £2 and booking is essential. Meet at the bird-ringing hut in the car park wearing clothing and footwear suitable for a long walk with slopes and uneven terrain. Dogs on leads are welcome.
