Souter Lighthouse, the gift shop and tea room are open daily from 11am to 5pm. This Friday and Saturday, there will be Haunting Halloween Fun for youngsters from 11am to 4pm. This activity is free but admission charges apply. Keep Whitburn Green Neighbourhood Forum is holding a Halloween Fun morning in the Barnes Institute today at 10am. All families are welcome to attend. There will be an open general progress meeting of the Forum in the Barnes Institute on Saturday at 10am.

Create will meet for a half-term Halloween workshop in the Barnes Institute tomorrow from 10am to 3pm. This will be suitable for children aged four . To book a place, call Lyndsey on 07852 975 494.

The Word, the new National Centre for the Written Word in South Shields is now open with a full range of exhibitions, showcases, displays and presentations as well as interactive story-telling/drama sessions for children. Special events with a festive theme will be taking place in the village next month. Whitburn Methodist Church craft fair will take place on Saturday, November 12, from 1pm to 4pm. St Vincent’s Christmas fair will be on Saturday, November 19, from 11am to 3pm. Friends of Whitburn Church of England Academy will hold a Christmas Fair on Thursday, November 24, from 5pm to 7pm. Whitburn Winter Festival will be in the Barnes Institute on Saturday, December 3, from 11am to 3pm. Souter Lighthouse has a full programme of events with a craft fair on November 19, create your own Christmas jumper on November 26 and there will be visits from Father Christmas during the first three weekends of December.
