Whitburn down Comrades to maintain push for top spot

Whitburn secured a 4-1 victory over Pennywell Comrades to keep up the pressure at the top of the Danby Autos Sunderland Snooker League.

Whitburn got off to a good start with Graeme Ablett winning the first frame with the aid of a 28 break.

Joe Cromby won the second frame before breaks of 22, 24 and 22 saw John Smith win a high scoring third frame against Andrew Doran 91-45.

Dean Taylor potted well to pull one back for Pennywell, but Mark Fox/Graeme Ablett won the pairs frame, beating Ian McDermott/Dean Taylor 75-37 for the 4-1 win.

Breaks of 21, 23 and 24 saw Stephen Thompson seal the first frame for Washington Snooker against Mill View.

Gavin Dixon won the second frame on a re-spotted black before Norman Leslie won the third frame.

Roful Hoque increased the lead before a 23 break by Adrian Daniels, when paired with Lee Dixon, helped Mill View get a consolation point as the league leaders finished as 4-1 winners.

Seaham Conservatives B’s excellent start to the season continued with a brilliant 3-2 win at home to Murton Colliery.

Robin Midson, Tony Grimes and Colin Dobson were successful for Seaham, while Murton replied through Ryan Lowes and the Justin Ebdy/Bobby Carne pairing.

The Hetton Centre travelled to Steels and started well with Paul Nord winning the first frame.

Jimmy Gales levelled the match before Ray Charlton Junior moved Steels back into the lead.

Ray Charlton Senior increased Steels’ lead before a 28 break by Joe Nord, when paired with Paul Stoves, helped them beat Ray Charlton Junior/Jimmy Gales 62-45 for the win.

Martin Ball got Lumley off to a winning start away at South Hylton against Adam Smith 77-45 before Bobby Boyce quickly levelled the match.

A 27 break helped Graham Rutland move Hylton into the lead before Brian Meuse again levelled.

In the pairs, breaks of 38 and 30 by Adam Smith, when paired with Ian Stewart, helped win the frame 100-41 and the match 3-2 for South Hylton.

The match between Biddick A and Glendale was expected to be close and the singles alternated into a 2-2 situation before Biddick took the pairs for the overall 3-2 result.

Elsewhere in the league, the Victory earned a 3-2 success over Biddick B.
