The Black Cats kept the same starting XI in the Premier League for the first time since May 2014, as they looked to build on the win over Manchester United a fortnight earlier.

However, there were two welcome returns on the bench after Seb Larsson and Younes Kaboul made their comebacks from injury to be involved for the first time in 2016.
