We're looking for Sunderland charities to receive our free meals as we give back to the community
You can put forward local charities and community organisations to receive free meals.
An award-winning Sunderland restaurant is giving back to the community with free meals.

My Delhi, which also has branches in Newcastle, is donating 500 meals to charities and community organisations supporting vulnerable people across the North East - and they’ve put out a call for you to nominate worthy causes.
The initiative follows My Delhi's success at the 2026 Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards (ARTA), where it was named Best Restaurant in the North East before going on to claim the evening's highest honour, Champion of Champions, triumphing over regional winners from across the UK.
To mark the occasion, the restaurant has launched ‘My Delhi, With Love’, a charitable initiative that will see 500 complimentary meals provided to 20 deserving organisations across the North East on November 11.
From homeless shelters and food banks to charities and community support groups, the initiative aims to reach people experiencing hardship and those who could benefit from a little extra support.
Shah Amin, Co-owner of My Delhi, said: "Winning Champion of Champions was an incredible moment for us. We feel truly blessed, and it's something we're still taking in.
“But we haven't forgotten where it all started. The North East have supported us from day one, and we wouldn't be where we are today without that support.
"We know there are so many charities and community groups doing incredible work, often quietly and without much recognition. We want these meals to reach people who could genuinely benefit from them.
"It's a small gesture in the grand scheme of things, but if we can bring a little happiness to someone's day, then that means a great deal to us.”
In early 2027, My Delhi will be relocating its current Sunderland branch in Borough Road to the former Frankie & Benny’s unit in Sunniside as part of the Sunniside Social scheme to improve the area.
How to nominate

Nominations are now open, with My Delhi inviting members of the public to put forward local charities and community organisations that could benefit from the initiative.
People can nominate an organisation through My Delhi's social media channels by tagging the group and sharing why they believe it deserves to be involved.
The 20 selected organisations will be announced on 1st November, with the meals provided on 11th November.
