Weekend collections planned for Sunderland's bins after ice puts a stop to rounds

Weekend rounds and a Monday service are planned to empty bins missed due to the icy conditions across Sunderland.

Sunderland City Council has said its refuse teams will aim to collect the waste either tomorrow, Saturday, February 13, or Monday, February 15, after the snowfall made it difficult for them to get around the streets.

A spokesperson said: “Due to the snowy weather over the last few days, and continued icy conditions, it has not been possible for our crews to make their usual refuse and recycling collections in some parts of the city.

“If we haven’t been able to collect your bin today, please keep checking our social media and website for updates.

“As things stand, any collections missed on Tuesday and Wednesday will be collected on either Saturday or Monday, weather permitting.

“We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your continued patience.”
