Cold temperatures brought light snow to parts of the region on January 14, with Hart Village in Hartlepool and parts of Sunderland among the areas affected.

Our photographer Frank Reid captured these picturesque shots of the snowfall in Peterlee, Hartlepool and Sunderland, although coastal areas remained untouched.

It follows on from heavy snow in parts of the region last week, which caused travel chaos on the roads in County Durham - including the A1(M) - experiencing major delays following a number of accidents.

Now the Met Office has issued a new yellow warning urging people to brace themselves for further snow and ice in parts of the North East.

The warning is in place for Durham on Thursday, January 14, with temperatures dropping overnight to -2°.
