Road closed due to flooding between Murton and Easington Lane

The B1285 between Murton and Easington Lane is closed today, Thursday, February 4 due to flooding, after Murton Lane became submerged with water following days of wet weather.

Flooding has disrupted the B1285 between the village and the junction with Murton Lane at Easington Lane and leading on to Colliery Lane in Hetton.

The closure has cut off links to Murton, Easington Lane and Hetton after vehicles struggled to drive through waterlogged conditions.

Motorists could be seen driving with difficulty through the water on Murton Lane.

Go North East has said its services 202 and 265 are unable to serve stops on that section of road and has asked passengers to catch their buses from Easington Lane or the Station Estate in Murton.

Forecasters at the Met Office expect the rain will continue until Tuesday, with yellow weather warnings in place for rain until Saturday and then ice and snow warnings into next week.

Meanwhile areas of Herrington County Park are under water, with its road to the lower car park closed off to vehicles as the route ahead is submerged under water.

Parking areas have become waterlogged and the lake has burst its banks following days of heavy downpour.

The wet weather caused part of the A19 to close and a flooding incident in Houghton yesterday – promoting more havoc for drivers and residents.

The Met Office warn further heavy rain may lead to more flooding and travel disruption.
