Families across the North East have been warned to prepare for heavy rain as the Met Office issues a Yellow warning for this week.

Forecasters say the Yellow warning for rain will be in force from 6am on Wednesday, November 27 until 6am on November 28 – with “heavy and prolonged” wet weather on the horizon.

The warning covers the majority of the North East region, from Blyth down through Newcastle, Sunderland, Durham, Cleveland and Middlesbrough to East Yorkshire.

While temperatures are expected to be milder than they have been recently, around 9 or 10°C, it will undoubtedly be time for the big coat to face the wet weather ahead.

The Met Office said: “Rain will turn heavy and prolonged at times leading to a risk of flooding in places.”

There are further warnings in place for Yorkshire, the South West of England and parts of Wales

Ahead of the wettest weather, Met Office forecasters have issued advice for the public on the impact of the oncoming wet weather, which is expected to strike in the early hours of Wednesday.

They warned of localised flooding and the possibility of disruption to travel.

The North East region is expected to see heavy rain this week, with a weather warning in force for Wednesday.

Temperatures are expected to take a further dip heading into the weekend, down to just 1°C – but it’s currently expected to be dry and bright as we welcome December.
