Met Office issues Yellow Weather Warning for Sunderland with strong winds potentially causing travel disruption and loss of power

The Met Office have issued a Yellow Weather Warning for strong winds to batter Sunderland this afternoon and evening (November 2).

The warning, which is in place until 9pm tonight, will see wind speeds peak at 6pm this evening with gusts of around 47mph, with winds in excess of 40mph forecast for between 4pm and 9pm.

Heavy rain is also forecast between 4pm and 6pm.

The Met Office warns of potential delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport with the winds posing a particular danger to high sided vehicles and motorists on “exposed routes”.

The warning also highlights the threat of coastal flooding and potential for loss of power.
