Met Office issued weather warning issued for winds of 'up to 70mph'

A Yellow warning for wind has been issued by its weather centre for Friday, January 10 at 6pm running until Saturday, January 11 at 3pm.

This follows on from a similar warning earlier in the week, which saw the region hit by gusts of up to 50mph.

Forecasters have warned that coastal areas and upland sites could see gusts of up to 65 and 70mph on Friday and Saturday, while winds of 50 and 60mph are “likely” elsewhere.

Places on the coast can also expect to see large waves and spray as the heavy winds move in.

Parts of Scotland, Yorkshire and the Humber, the North West and Wales are also affected by warnings for wind and rain over a similar time period.

What can I expect?

The weather conditions could cause delays to road, rail and ferry transport, as well as flights being affected.

There may also be delays for high-sided vehicles travelling on exposed routes and bridges, while other drivers’ journeys could be affected.

Forecasters say there could also be a short-term loss of power in some areas.

Weather warnings are given a colour – yellow, amber or red – depending on the impact the weather may have, and the likelihood of such impact occuring.

Yellow warnings can be issued for a range of weather situations and impacts, from low-level to more severe, depending on the majority of people affected.
