Flights cancelled from Newcastle Airport as Storm Dennis set to bring torrential rain and strong gales

easyjet flights to Geneva and Bristol which were schedule to departed from the North East airport on Saturday evening have been cancelled.

It comes as strong gales are expected to hit 45mph over the weekend.

Heavy rain is forecast for much of Saturday – with the Met Office predicting rain will begin from 11am.

The 6pm Newcastle flight to Geneva and the 9.25pm flight to Bristol have both been cancelled due to ‘extraordinary circumstance’, say easyjet.

A yellow weather warning for wind is currently in place and the Met Office has now extended it until midday on Monday, February 17.

Across the UK a number of weather warnings are in place including amber warnings for rain in Wales as well as parts of North Yorkshire and Lancashire.

Details posted on easyjet’s website about both cancellations said: “We’re very sorry that your flight has been cancelled.

“This is due to anticipated poor weather caused by Storm Dennis over the UK and parts of Europe between February 15 and 16.

“The disruption to your flight is beyond our control and is considered an extraordinary circumstance.”
