Wearside League: Broken leg halts Silksworth-West End derby

Last night's big TWR Bifolds Wearside League derby was abandoned in the second half '“ after Sunderland West End player Nathan Cummings unfortunately broke his leg.

The Ford Quarry side were leading city rivals Silksworth CW 3-1 at the time, six minutes into the second half.

Silksworth had taken the lead against the run of play.

However, 10 minutes later, Mark Robinson headed home at the back post, to level things up at 1-1.

Bryan Norton then fired fifth-top West End in front with a brilliant overhead free-kick, which flew into the net.

Kevin Gordon added a third goal for the visitors, but it was to be to no avail, following the injury sustained by Cummings.

Coxhoe Athletic enjoyed a fine 3-2 victory at South Shields Reserves.

Coxhoe took the lead through striker David Paul and Callum Savage found the net to double the lead.

Soyfur Chaudhury pulled one back for the Reserves, but Peter Brown restored the two-goal advantage after 63 minutes. Two minutes later, Leon McKeith made it 3-2, but Coxhoe held on for a much-needed win.

Annfield Plain won 2-1 at Prudhoe Town. They stormed in front on 22 minutes, following a scramble in the box, finished off by Carl Malpass.

Plain doubled the lead, through Scott Watson, in the 35th minute and they held on for all three points, despite a left-foot reply from Derek Waters, seven minutes into the second period.

Lowly Stokesley SC beat Hartlepool 2-0, thanks to second-half strikes from Ryan Rivis and Abdul Wahab.
