Those who nominated her for the award said: “On a voluntary basis she supports the Town End Farm Residents Association in her role as secretary where she guides and oversees all events.
“Jean also became involved in PTA at Town End Farm school and is also a governor of the school.

“Alongside this she also actively works with Gentoo to benefit the community.
“The award would be a fitting tribute to honour Jean who finds time to devote her energy for the good of the residents of Town End Farm.”

Jean, who has lived in Bognor Street for 52 years, said is was nice to be nominated for the award, but stressed that she couldn’t do what she does without the support of the community and the team.

She said: “There was a time when there wasn’t much on the estate for residents, so we started up the association and put on events for the community to enjoy.

“There are around 15 members on the committee and we hold a carnival every year as well as events such as a craft group and a bingo group.
“I think as a residents association we are respected by the community and we couldn’t do it without their support.

“We do what we do to keep up the community spirit and I think that’s what we have done.

“It makes me feel proud that people have recognised that, as it’s always nice he have someone say you have done a good job.”
