We must make our own luck, says Pools boss Dave Jones

Poor play led to Luton Town taking a two-goal lead at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday night though the Hatters enjoyed a slice of good fortune for their third when Ollie Palmer tapped home after Brad Walker’s clearance hit a team-mate and landed at his feet.

While Jones bemoans how Pools receive no such gifts, he said it is up to the team to get out and earn a vist from Lady Luck.

“When you are up there, you find that things go for you,” said the manager, whose side host second-top Plymouth Argyle at the Northern Gas & Power Stadium on Saturday.

“You get the breaks, but you have to earn that.

“When you are at the top end of a division I hear people say they get lucky.

“It’s not like that, you earn those breaks.

“I thought the final outcome was harsh against Luton because the players worked so hard.

“For the first 15, I’m not sure what we were doing.

“But I’ve not had a go at them, I praised them for the last 75 minutes.

“When you have so many young lads in a team, you have to forgive mistakes, as long as players learn.

“We have a lot of kids out there at the same time and that’s hard, sometimes I think I am a manager sending an Under 21 side out for a cup tie.

“If we can get through this patch, I think that all these lads getting experience will stand our club in good stead.”
