From Pit Village to Buckingham Palace is the title of a talk by Stephanie Yearnshire, retired police superintendent, today in Washington Town Centre Library at 2.30pm.

Washington Town Centre Library will be hosting a 3D Rainbow Spring card craft session on March 29 from 2.30pm to 3.30pm. There will also be a spring flowers and poppy tales sessions on March 31 from 2.15pm to 3.15pm.

Washington Millennium Centre will host a spring birds nest craft event on March 1 from 2.30pm to 3.30pm. On April 4 learn how to make Grufffalo Storysacks from 2.30pm to 3.30pm.

Character art with Daniel Weatheritt will take place in Washington Town Centre Library on April 7 from 2.15pm to 3.15pm. There will also be a Ladybird session on April 5 from 2.15pm to 3,15pm.

Create your own Shakespeare portrait, make an Elizabethan scroll, test your quill skills and write your favourite Shakespeare quote at Washington Town Centre Library on Saturday, March 19, from 10.30am-noon. For further information, contact Washington Library on 0191 5613441. The session is suitable for all ages but children under the age of eight must be accompanied by an adult.

Washington Concord WI’s membership has steadily increased and members are all looking forward to an inspiring 2016. They have speakers, demonstrations, activities, outings and so much more arranged for the year ahead. On May 3, members will be holding an open day, which will include a WI Got Talent Show with member providing the entertainment, taking place in St Andrew’s Church. To mark their 85th year, members are joining up with Sunderland City Council to host a flower display at Washington Concord Bus Station, the date is to be arranged. June 7 members will celebrate their birthday in St Andrew’s Church with a visit from Tricia Stewart, who is one of the original Calendar Girls (Tricia was born in Sunderland and her character was played by Helen Mirren in the 2003 film).
