Washington - Down Your Way

Washington Athletic FC is supported by The Rotary Club of Washington. Terry Rutherford, John Dodds and John Corrigan coach and train the youngsters, currently more than 100. Members recently competed in a two-day tournament at Washington School, which was organised by Terry Rutherford. The event saw more than 1,000 children take part, including teams from the Russell Forster League. Washington Athletic FC has also started a girls team with their strips carrying The Rotary Club of Washington's logo. Scouts from Sunderland and Newcastle as well as other high profile clubs attended the tournament on the look out for the next big star.

Young nature explorers are invited to visit The Washington Wetlands Centre. Pick up your free nature explorers passport for a summer adventure, complete the challenges and become a Super Nature Explorer. While you are there take time to meet the centre’s new cute baby otters. There is also lots more events coming up over the school holidays.

Again for the kids, don’t miss My Pet Monster And Me, a funny farmyard adventure play for children aged three-plus. Performances take place at 11am and 2pm on Saturday at The Washington Arts Centre. Tickets are £6.50 or a family ticket for four cost £22.

Washington Theatre Group is performing The Great Gatsby on July 28, 29 and 30, at 7.30pm. Tickets are £6.
