Washington Town Centre Library is hosting a story writing workshops for adults. Join Writer In Residence Anne Curtis to learn some new writing skills on today either from 10.30am to noon or 1pm to 2.30pm .

Washington Old Hall is holding a story writing competition with a closing date of October 2. All you need to do is write a story inspired in some way by Washington Old Hall. You could possibly use part of its history or be based around someone you have heard lived there. Alternatively you may create your own characters and events to suit your own story. Four winners and four runner-ups will have their stories published in a special commemoration ebook. There are four age groups: eight to 12 years , 13 to 17 years , 18 to 25 years and 26 years plus. Email your entries, which must be no more than 1,000 words, to [email protected] or send direct to Washington Old Hall ensuring you state your contact details and your age.

If you are a music fan of any era then you will not want to miss a unique show called FANS, which is being staged at The Arts Centre Washington on September 15 and 16. The show fuses together fan confessions and some not so true stories with drama, stand up comedy and an eclectic mix of live music featuring recognisable songs and original music. The show is all based on people’s love affair with music. It is not to be missed

The Arts Centre has a new exhibition of paintings by local pop artist Kevin Maguire, called Macart, which will run from September 9 through to October 8.
