North Biddick Bowls Club held its end of season presentation evening In the North Biddick Bowls Club. Pies and peas and excellent entertainment from Jerry Garcia made for an enjoyable evening for the 100 members and their guests who attended. Star of the night was the club chairman, Bill Piggott, who won five trophies and the silver plate for being Player of The Year. There are lots of activities at Washington Arts Centre next month including their renowned craft fair, a panto with a difference, Christmas singalong and Santa’s little helper. More details to follow or visit its website.

There is still time to see Sunderland Art Club’s exhibition and the Materialistics exhibition of knitted, sewn and crocheted items, both on show at the Arts Centre until December 3. Mapping Armageddon is a poetic art installation by Barrie West and Stephanie Smith. They look at man’s inhumanity to man and the lessons we must learn from this. Barrie has constructed a four-wall installation while Stephanie provides The Poet’s Chair. The sculptures are on display until January 20 .

Washington Athletic FC junior players, who attended the Remembrance Day parade, in the strips which are sponsored by the Rotary Club of Washington.

On Saturday at the Arts Centre at 7.30pm there is the opportunity to see an award-winning play about real life stories in a women’s prison. Key Change was devised with women from HMP Low Newton. The play was the winner of the Carol Tamper Best of Edinburgh Award 2015 and when it premiered in New York it was awarded the prestigious New York Times Critic Pick. Tickets are £8.50.

Washington Christmas Festival is taking place on Saturday from 11am to 3pm on the village green beside Cross Keys. There will be a Santa’s Grotto, real reindeer to feed, funfair, ice rink, Santa’s elves who will help write letters to Santa and hand deliver them to him. There will also be a Christmas market with a lot of lovely crafts and delicious items.

Young players from Washington Athletic FC attended the Remembrance Sunday service and poppy wreath laying at Washington Cenotaph. All those who attended the event then returned to The Black Bush where food and refreshments were laid on by the Rotary Club of Washington and the Black Bush. The Rotary club sponsors the football teams, and members were delighted to see the youngsters in their strips showing off the Rotary Logo.
