Join the fun as the children can help Santa find his reindeer and treasure in the outdoor trail, then enjoy lunch at 1pm followed by a panto at 2pm. Tickets are £20 per adult and £10 per child. Coping with any loss is always difficult , and if you are 16 or over and trying to cope with bereavement then grief journals and creative writing could be helpful to you. On Friday, December 16, The Life House we will be joining the nation in a day of silliness by wearing Christmas jumpers and raising money for Save The Children. Join in the activities or just have a cuppa and a chat.

If you are interested in becoming a health champion (full training given) The Life House is hosting a Christmas networking event on Wednesday, December 14, between 1pm and 2.30pm.

Washington Mind is working in conjunction with St Joe’s Church to collect donations for homeless women. Donations large and small are welcome, just take them to The Life House, Grasmere Terrace, Columbia. Fill an unwanted handbag with toiletries, snacks, tissues, female products, hats, gloves or scarves, warm socks or Christmas cards with stamps are acceptable. Please note, aerosols, sharp objects or anything containing alcohol are not accepted.

Washington Arts Centre has some interesting shows in the next week. Santa’s Little Helper is on this week until Sunday at various times. A 50-minute show suitable for aged three-plus tells the story of a seven-year-old struggling to continue to believe in Santa. It uses a blend of music, puppetry and high energy storytelling with lots of laughs and sing-alongs . Visit the centre website for more information on performance times and to book tickets. Saturday, upstairs in The Granary, sees a new art exhibition, which runs until January 28. Flesh is an exhibition of mixed media works by 18-year-old Ashleigh Swain from Sunderland. The exhibition features sculptures and paintings about our own bodies and the flesh that covers it from birth to death. Wednesday, December 14, at 1.30pm, there is a screening of Joyeux Noel. It is December 1914 and an unofficial truce on the Western Front allows soldiers from opposing sides of the First World War gain an insight into each others way of life.

The Washington Christmas Festival held in Washington village last weekend was a great success with over 3,000 visitors and 250 children visiting Santa.
