Unacceptable deadline

The introduction of a community-parking zone in the northern part of Tunstall Road and the surrounding streets has been woefully mismanaged by Sunderland Council.

I received a letter on July 23 (a Saturday) informing me that I had to apply for a permit to park my car with a deadline of August 1.

It is totally unacceptable that the council gave people five working days to apply for a permit in the height of the summer holidays, when many families, including my neighbours, are on holiday for a week or two at a time.

At the very least, it is gross incompetence on behalf of the council and at the very worst a brazen attempt to fine people to fill council coffers.

In my view, it is incredibly poor management of a scheme that few in the area were in favour of and highlights a complete lack of understanding from the council about the people they are supposed to represent.
