Testo’s Roundabout is being transformed into a flyover so that traffic on the route will no longer need to stop and negotiate the junction, cutting down congestion and travel times.
New sliproads will be created so that traffic can join and leave the road at Boldon.

Work to lay the road on the large bridge which has been constructed over the roundabout is due to begin in the spring.
The team has installed panels to allow them to then pour concrete to complete the bridge deck, with the drainage at south pond also finished.
The drainage, kerbing and footpath work on the A184 is ongoing and nearing completion.

In the meantime, Highways England says preparations will continue, with nighttime closures already being used to divert traffic away from the area to allow the team to work safely.
A spokesperson for the department added: “Work is currently taking place to improve the drainage and fencing.
"The earthworks on the approach to the bridge needs time to settle before we can build the road over the top.”
