Emergency services attended a road traffic collision on the A19 just before 12.30 pm on Friday (April 30).

Two patients were taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital and drivers in the area faced delays while a section of the road was temporarily closed.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “One of our crews came across a road traffic collision on the A19 around the Riverside area just before 12.30pm this afternoon.

"We dispatched a further two ambulance crews and transported two patients to Sunderland Royal Hospital.”

Northumbria Police have said nobody was seriously injured and added that the road has now reopened.

A force spokesperson said: “At 12.30pm today (Friday) we received a report of a two-vehicle collision on the A19 southbound between A1231 Sunderland Highway and A183 Chester Road.

“Emergency services attended but thankfully nobody was seriously injured. The road was temporarily blocked but has since reopened.”
