New Elvet Bridge in Durham to undergo 'critical repairs' thanks to £93million Government funding pot

A Government fund worth £93million will be split between more than 30 local authorities to repair roads and bridges.

And according to the Press Association, Durham County Council will receive more than £4million to fund critical repairs to New Elvet Bridge in Durham.

Elsewhere in the North East, £3.7million will pay for refurbishments to several steel bridges across Northumberland.

Making the announcement on Friday, February 28 Roads Minister Baroness Vere said: “There is nothing more frustrating than a journey delayed by poor road conditions, and this multimillion-pound boost will help improve connectivity across the country.

"This investment will not only help local areas to target current pinch points on their roads, but will also harness our world-leading research and innovation capabilities to future proof the next generation of journeys."

The announcement is part of more than £6.6billion of Government investment between 2015 and 2021 to improve local roads.
