Motorcyclist taken to hospital following A1(M) crash near Angel of the North

A motorcyclist has been taken to hospital following a collision with a car on the A1(M).

Emergency services were called at 6.30am this morning (Tuesday, May 11) to the A1(M) at the A167 exit slip road where a car and a motorcycle had collided.

Paramedics attended the scene and have confirmed the motorcyclist, a man, was taken to hospital. He is not believed to be seriously injured.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At about 6.40am we received a report of a collision involving a car and motorcycle on the northbound sliproad of the A1 at Junction 66. Nobody was seriously injured and the road has since been cleared.”

One lane of the carriageway was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident but was reopened within the hour.

A spokesman for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 6.30am this morning. We dispatched one paramedic crew and took one patient to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.”
