Motorcyclist taken to hospital following a collision in Sunderland on the A1231

A motorcyclist was taken to hospital after collision on the A1231 which resulted in a lane being blocked.

The incident happened just after 5.20pm on Wednesday (November 2) on the A1231 Sunderland Highway near the A19.

In a social media post North East Live traffic said lane three was blocked due to the collision. The road reopened shortly after.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 5.20pm yesterday (Wednesday) we received a report of a collision involving a car and a motorcycle on the A1231 Sunderland Highway near the A19.

Emergency services attended and the motorcycle rider was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The road was temporarily blocked but reopened a short time later.”
