At around 7.30pm on Saturday, Feburary 1, Nexus confirmed that passengers were experiencing heavy delays affecting both directions between the stations due to a lack of crew.

Tyne and Wear Metro tweeted: “Due to a lack of available train crew we currently have delays of up to 45 minutes between South Hylton and Airport affecting both directions. Please leave extra time for your journey.”

Earlier in the day, it was also confirmed that reduced driver availability caused five train services to be part cancelled. These trains cover services throughout the night including travel between St James and Monkseaton, South Gosforth, South Hylton and South Shields.

Full details of the services affected can be found on the Nexus website and extra time should be made for journeys for the remainder of the evening.
