Metro service disruption in Sunderland with no trains running between Park Lane and South Hylton

No metro trains are running between Park Lane and South Hylton this morning, Thursday, March 4, due to overhead line issues.

Nexus, which runs the system, says there are no trains on the section between Park Lane and South Hylton due to overhead line issues on Network Rail infrastructure.

A replacement bus service has been operating to all affected stations from 5.30am this morning.

The issue was reported at 4.55am today.

The operator said they will provide a 24 minute service from Park Lane platform 2 towards Airport and from Sunderland onwards towards Airport, trains will operate to timetable.

In a statement, Nexus said: “Due to overhead line issues on Network Rail infrastructure, we will have no trains operating between Park Lane and South Hylton from start of service.

"We will have a bus replacement service from 5:30 operating to all affected stations. Passengers are advised to make alternative arrangements if possible.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused.”
