Metro service cancellations to run through the day as passengers are warned to leave extra time for journeys

Tyne and Wear Metro’s bosses have published a list of trains which will not run today due to the staffing issues.

In the early hours of, a spokesperson for the network said: “Some services are cancelled due to driver availability.

"Please leave extra time for your journey.

"Sorry for the inconvenience caused.”

In addition to the cancellations, this morning’s service has also seen a gap in trains between St James and South Shields due to a failed train in the depot.

An Airport service was also replaced at South Gosforth after a train was withdrawn at Central due to a fault, causing a gap in that station and the Airport while the train was replaced.

This morning’s troubles follow an evening of disruption caused when a train failed, leading the service to be suspended between Gateshead and South Gosforth, with passengers left to use bus services as an alternative.

The services affected by today’s cancellations are:
