Metro passengers are facing delays of up to 20 minutes this morning after two trains were withdrawn from service due to a fault.

The disruption is affecting trains running between South Hylton and Gateshead and passengers travelling in the area have been asked to lave extra time for their journey.

Tyne and Wear Metro said in a tweet: “A train has been withdrawn from service at South Hylton due to a fault. Due to this we have a gap in the service of up to 20 mins to trains running between South Hylton and Gateshead. Please leave extra time for your journey if you're travelling in the area.”

Earlier this morning, another train had to be be withdrawn from service at Sunderland after a fault, causing delays of up to 20 minutes between Sunderland and South Hylton.
